The Stryker is an eight-wheeled armored personnel carrier produced by General Dynamics based on the LAV III, which in turn was developed based on the MOWAG Piranha.

Yes, that's correct! The Stryker is indeed an eight-wheeled armored fighting vehicle that provides wheeled armored vehicle capabilities to the United States Army. It is highly versatile and used for a variety of missions including reconnaissance, convoy escort, and direct fire support. The Stryker family of vehicles has several variants such as the Infantry Carrier Vehicle (ICV), Mobile Gun System (MGS), Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM), Mortar Carrier (MC), Reconnaissance Vehicle (RV), and more. It is interesting to note the lineage of the Stryker vehicle, starting from the MOWAG Piranha design and evolving into the LAV III platform, which ultimately led to the development of the Stryker as we know it today.
