The M44 155mm self-propelled howitzer, also known as the M44 Field Artillery Ammunition Support Vehicle (FAASV), was indeed based on the chassis of the M41 Walker Bulldog light tank. The M44 was primarily designed to provide ammunition resupply to artillery units in the field. It featured a 155mm howitzer mounted on the rear of the vehicle, which could be used for self-defense if necessary.

The M44 served in various armies around the world and was known for its mobility and firepower. Its 155mm gun allowed it to provide indirect fire support to ground troops over long distances. Despite being introduced in the 1950s, the M44 remained in service for several decades and saw action in different conflicts.

The M44 was an important asset for artillery units, as it enabled them to quickly resupply ammunition to their guns, ensuring continuous support during operations. The combination of a powerful gun, mobility, and ammunition supply capability made the M44 a versatile and effective weapon system on the battlefield.
