The Bedford M series of trucks were a series of commercial trucks offered in both cab chassis and simple body chassis, with the first variants being seen on the market since 1939. Their driving system was a four-speed, front-axle drive steering system, with a mechanical steering control on the chassis and a four-wheel drive system designed to carry weights of up to 2-3 tons.
Two main axle spacing versions were offered – 10′ 0″ or 11′ 11″ – and each of these models was equipped with a standard 6-cylinder gasoline engine, with a power of 27.34 horsepower (27 HP). Coupled to this was a 4-speed gearbox with a dry clutch, and a power brake system attached to the rear axle, which operated a floating system with a spiral conical disc at the end. The brakes were hydraulic and operated by a Lockheed four-wheel assisted servo system.

The Bedford M series of trucks indeed has a rich history as commercial vehicles. The detailed specifications you provided shed light on the robust design and capabilities of these trucks.

The front-axle drive steering system coupled with the mechanical steering control on the chassis would have provided the driver with good control over the vehicle, especially when carrying heavy loads. The four-wheel drive system added to the truck's capability to handle various terrains and road conditions effectively.

The two main axle spacing options offered, 10′ 0″ and 11′ 11″, would have allowed for flexibility in configuring the truck to meet different needs, whether in terms of cargo space or overall vehicle dimensions.

With a 6-cylinder gasoline engine generating 27 HP, the Bedford M series trucks would have provided a balance between power and fuel efficiency for their time. The combination of this engine with a 4-speed gearbox and a dry clutch suggests that these trucks were designed for durability and reliability in commercial operations.

The power brake system, with a floating system and spiral conical disc, would have contributed to efficient braking performance, essential for safety when carrying heavy loads. The hydraulic brakes, operating through a Lockheed four-wheel assisted servo system, would have provided responsive braking power, further enhancing the truck's safety features.

Overall, the Bedford M series trucks appear to have been well-engineered vehicles tailored for commercial use, offering a combination of power, reliability, and safety features to meet the demands of various applications in the transportation industry.
