The 2S7 Pion, also known as the 2S7M Malka, is indeed a powerful Soviet self-propelled 203 mm cannon designed for long-range fire support. The designation "2S7" given by the GRAU refers to its role as a self-propelled artillery system. The discrepancy in the number of units produced (whether 250, 500, or up to 1,000) can be attributed to variations in sources and records, common in military equipment of this scale and complexity.

The 2S7 systems were strategically placed across the former Soviet states during the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. They served as a vital component of the Soviet military's artillery forces, providing heavy firepower and long-range capabilities. The redistribution of these units would have been a significant task due to their size and weight, highlighting the impact of the geopolitical changes of that time on military infrastructure.

The 2S7 Pion/Malka stands out as a formidable piece of military equipment, renowned for its firepower and effectiveness on the battlefield. Its deployment history reflects the evolving landscape of military power dynamics following the end of the Cold War.
